Om

Like the Mantra on my foot, it is the lotus coming up from the mud, patience, and beauty comes through. This is for me powerful. Metta Wellness stands for "loving kindness", with the lotus this is always a symbol for me that working through and staying on your path beauty opens. Metta Wellness has been in a process of change, always moving forward, learning, and exploring along the way. As we moved into a new location, adding a second location and launching Metta Herbals into the online market and general public. Change, patience, and trust is my Mantra for this opening. Lets step back a little. In May Metta Wellness moved into its new location in Shrewsbury, calming, easily located and just the right size.  This space also allows for the growth in Metta Wellness and Herbals. Taking time to set up and shift into this space (still organizing a few small details), adjusting and refocusing on the space and the path for Metta Wellness & Herbals. Change was our Ma...

Find the massage for you

Body image. Almost everybody has something about their body that they don’t like. For many people it’s a minor issue, no big deal. But some people have a major issue with their body image. It affects how they live and their happiness. When I tell some people that I’m a massage therapist it can cause a strong reaction. They tell me, whether verbally or through their reaction and body language, that massage is not for them.  The paradox here is that massage can really help with body image issues. In massage school we were all nervous about taking off our clothes and letting somebody else touch us. It didn’t take long for us to discover that bodies are just bodies and become much more comfortable with our own. We also experienced how good receiving a massage made us feel. Something unexpected happened – when our bodies felt better we felt better about our bodies. I think there are  options to consider. 1. Don’t get a massage, nothing changes This is the easiest because...

Pain Management with Meditation

Study after study is showing that mediation effects pain. This past May the International Ayurveda & Yoga(internal yoga - meditation) Convention was dedicated to pain management, research and what we can do. Lets take a quick overview of what meditation does.         Simply put, mediation help calm the signals to the brain, thus allow the system to calm, over time the body slows down on the signals of "fight or flight", in return decreasing the inflammation the the body. Over time as the inflammation decreases, the pain signals are less and you are able to lower or deal with the pain easier. These results are noticeable in the first few weeks, months, and then after two years of practice. This research shows that over time, adding this into your healing routine builds up the benefits. So how does this connect with massage?          During a relaxation massage your body mind connection is settling, or c...

Moving Forward with Change

As I move Metta Wellness into its new space this week, I am guided by the simplicity of change. I went to a Buddhist Temple this weekend, and was given a light, a small candle to sit in front of the Buddha, and as I did I stepped back and observed in calm and full of peace. It was then explained that the candle is a symbol of guidance( as you enter your home at night, you turn on the light, now you can see) this is the candle left behind. Inside you you have that light, and you can clearly see. This was a powerful time, as any change, we fell fear, anxiety and excitement and moving your work is no different. This calm in this move, the candle just reminds you that you have the light to see clearly inside of your self. With this change, I have come to appreciate that vulnerability, in myself and the people around me. As I move forward and move Metta Wellness into our new space, I welcome this change, this is a time to reflect, learn and grow with this change in front of us. ...

Essential Oils for Allergies

Allergies can be difficult for many people to deal with, so finding ways to relive some so the symptoms is one way to deal with the discomfort. One way we find relief form allergies is through a few simple steps that we add to our daily routine. 1tsp raw honey with turmeric and black pepper honey works as a cleaning agent to the body, so as it moves through the system it picks up things and carries them through( like pollen's, dirt)  to helps eliminate them black pepper and turmeric work together, the black pepper activates the turmeric and the body, while the turmeric is an anti-inflammatory agent for the body. Allergies cause discomfort equaling inflammation that will result in puffy eyes, stuffy nose, etc. Essential oil diffuser I take a blend of peppermint, lemon and lavender essential oils and add to my diffuser at home and will run at night to help clear the air, leaving smelling fresh and opening my sinus passages. I will also do a second blend of the pe...

Herbal Poultice Body Treatment

To me this is the ideal Winter body-treatment, warm and focused on sore muscles. I start with warm herbalized oils( one of my own blends of wild harvested herbalized oils ) applied to the body, then a relaxation time while the herbs soak in, while you are resting I am heating up your herbal poultices. The herbal poultice will be used  in a quick rhythmic tapping to heat the joints and muscles while breaking up stagnation in the body, leaving you feeling warm and blissful. The herbs I have blended  together are to help relax the muscles while encouraging circulation with your herbal goal in mind. I have three herbal poultice blends, a Stress and Relaxation Herbal Poultice,Arthritis and Joint Pain Herbal Poultice and Muscle Relaxing Herbal Poultice. Before your treatment we will work together to pick the herbal blend that is best for your body.  The products and body-work offered by Metta Wellness are not intended to treat, cure or prevent any illness or dis...
