#02 Self-Care

Do something nice for yourself. Sounds easy, right. How often have you given a friend, co-worker or partner some good advise, to only not follow it yourself? It just had this happen this week. My client came in, we were talking about self-care, I had suggested that she take some time and do something nice for herself. The next afternoon, I had a client come in for a massage, when I asked her what brought her in, she said," My body was telling me this is what it needed". She took the time to listen to herself. It seems so simple. I do my mediation, and do my herbals, for me its keeping up with my yoga and doing the gentle pampering s of taking time that I forget. So for me, it was a foot scrub! I am either on my feet or using  my feet in my Thai yoga massage, and they sometimes yell for a nice foot scrub. So that's just what I did, a nice eucalyptus sugar scrub followed up with a tea tree lotion bar. My feet have been saying thank you all day. So...

Herbs make the journey Smoother

For me, herbs make sense. When I have a cold, or feeling tired, or struggling with a stuck emotion, I go to my herbs. Herbs can be gentle, soothing, or strong, pungent and sometimes not that pleasant to take. Over time I have come to see that herbs make the journey smoother. Starting simple, like what herbs do you have right now in your kitchen. Most of us have rosemary, cinnamon, ginger and maybe basil or turmeric. With just what you have in this herb kitchen you can start your journey. Now that you have taken a new look inside your herb kitchen, lets find a few ways to work with the ones we have. Over time you will find which herbs you connect to, or relate to, and others you may not. Give the a try, blending, adding to broths, meals, self massage or just simple relax and smell the herbs. What can these kitchen herbs do for you? When I look at the herbs that you may have, I think of rosemary oil for cooking(maybe garlic in that) this is perfect for lungs and heart opener. ...

Breath, Meditate and stay Calm

Fall is here, and so are the Holidays. With the holidays comes family gatherings, work parties, busy stores and change of food and drink. This time of the year can be exciting, and fun, but can be tiring and somewhat stressful on the body. This is where taking some time for yourself daily can help. The last few months I have been going to and part of conferences all related to self care, meditation, massage, yoga all to keep the mind and body relaxed, lowering the stress response. Stress is a part of our daily life, it can be the thing that pushes you to work harder to change your lifestyle, but it can also be causing you stagnation.Feeling heavy, or disconnected from self, family, or work can be signs of imbalance due to a build up of stress. Their are many ways to bring the balance in and calm the system. Starting with the breath is a quick and easy way to feel the body reboot and see the calming of the system in a short time. When I am teaching, working with a client o...

Enjoy the Hoildays with Health

Their are so many ways to enjoy the holidays with health in mind. No, I'm not saying you can't enjoy the holiday food and drink, but in moderation, consideration and some healthy preparation, and you will glide through with ease. For me, the holidays are, being with family, the food, the decorations, visiting with friends and family. It can take a toll on you if your not ready. I do a lot of baking during the holidays, and I spend a lot of time with family, so I find ways to make healthy choices over the holidays. Some of the best ways that I find to enjoy the holiday's with health: Enjoy the food, yes I will enjoy the food. You have so many parties or gatherings, so for our house, we work to eat a balanced healthy meal every night. Along with eating healthy during the holidays, we do a lot of herbal tea, nettle being my top, then root tea(spicy) or a chaga tea, to help keep the body clean. Doing this between parties helps to enjoy the food that we eat and for it t...

Thai Foot Massage

Thai Foot Massage becoming my clients favorite healing tool. I love sharing different techniques with my clients, and their is nothing better then finding just the right combination for and with your client. I am continually learning different ways to work with issues, such as headaches, stress reduction, low back pain right down to anxiety. Every client is different, so, each combination of treatments can be different. I start by checking in with you, what are your goals, what brought you to me for body-work,then onto  health forms a few questions and from their we see what will work best for you. After a while you know what treatment combination you like, and as we continue to adjust over time , weather it be oils, essential oils, herbs, teas, right down to maybe a different combination of body-work. One combination that has become a favorite of quite a few of my clients is a massage,  followed by a Thai Foot massage. A Thai foot massage can be very deep, work...

Nettles and the many ways we use them at Metta Wellness

Yes, I love Nettle, and as you see I  featured them last week in my teas:  Blueberry Nettle and Nettle with Rose-hip and Cinnamon chip. Both have the nourishment that we need in the change of season and are a great source of vit.C, not to mention they taste great. What have I been up to on my Snow Day

What have I been up to on my Snow Day, Peaceful Centering Tea Yes, in the past two weeks we have had several snow days. I wanted to stay busy and I did! I did my share of shoveling and I enjoyed getting outside and feeling that cool crisp air, feeling the crunch of the snow under your feet. As I found myself much like other people out shoveling, I found my body to be a little tender(could be from our dog that pulled me on the snow/ice). So I did what I always do, made an oil for my muscles(coconut oil infused with pomegranate, comfrey oil and a blend of essential oils), blended a tincture (milky oats and passion) then sat down with a cup of herbal tea(sample available at Metta Wellness after each massage). Woke up feeling fine, and no areas of tender muscles. I love to work with and blend my herbs, I use them before an issue arises, such as the snow and shoveling, I prepared herbs to help relax and sooth the muscles since they had been worked in a different way. Think o...
